  • Check out the NOAA tide forecast for the area here. Based on this info, your ride window is typically 2 hours after the high tide up to 3 hours before the next high tide.

  • From the shop, most folks simply ride to Bishop’s Beach or Mariner Park and do an out-and-back. For those with transportation, there are a couple other options;
    1. The Switchbacks at the very end of East End Road.
    2. Anchor River State Recreation Area.
    3. Whiskey Gulch, just north of Anchor Point.

  • The primary risk when riding the beach is being caught by a high tide. Any tide higher than 15 feet will push you against the bluff, where riding can be challenging. Tides higher than 18 feet and you’ll be swamped. For these higher tides be off the beach 3 hours before it peaks. There is a secondary risk from the bluff face of falling boulders.

  • It can be. Homer beaches are a mixed bag depending where you go. Some routes are easy rolling sand, with creek crossing, others are smooth sand and gravel with the occasional boulder field. Access to the beach is limited, so route choice is important. If you don’t have experience mountain biking, consider the Homer Spit, starting at Mariner Park. This route allows you plenty of bail-out opportunities. Looking for something more challenging? This might require a shuttle, unless you plan an out-and-back. Don’t hesitate to call with questions.

  • The beach is always an option all year round. Snowmachine trails are another option. Our local snowmachine organization, Snomads, will groom their trails on good snow years. Even in low snow years these routes often prove rideable. Check with us for current conditions if you’re considering a winter ride.
